Admissions 2020-2021

Pupils start school the year that they turn five years of age. Therefore, pupils starting primary school in September 2020 were born between 1st September 2015 and 31st August 2016.


What will happen regarding Reception places starting in September 2020?

If you still need to apply for a place, please apply to Lambeth Admissions as soon as possible ( Usually in an Academy Church School, admissions are offered by the school, however, reception spaces MUST be applied via Lambeth Admissions (until 1st September 2020 when applications are dealt with the school directly but in communication with Lambeth Admissions). 

Your application will be dealt with by Lambeth as detailed above for late applications.


What happens next?

We emailed parents to outline that we are delighted that their child will be joining us in September. It is very important to the school that we support children and their parents in making the transition from attending a nursery or from being at home to starting school in September.   Due to unknown timeframes regarding lockdown, the date and format of school inductions, uniform collections will be affected.  However, please be reassured that your child will have the smoothest transition possible into St Luke’s. We will write to you regularly to keep you informed on how we will work together to make this a reality.


New Parents’ Meeting – Date to be confirmed

We will be holding two meetings for new parents and carers to explain the arrangements made for your child to start school. You are welcome to attend either meeting. At the meetings, we will talk to you about the EYFS curriculum, our vision and values, our high expectations and our caring ethos.

You will have the opportunity to ask questions and meet other new parents as well as some of our current parents whose younger children will be starting in September. The meeting will last about 45 minutes.

We usually hold these meetings in June.  We will try to re-arrange them for later in the Summer Term, otherwise we will look at other ways to hold these meetings such as via Zoom.  For those parents for whom this would not be possible, please inform the school at your earliest convenience and I am certain we can make alternative arrangements with you.


Home Visits – AM / PM

In normal circumstances we conduct home visits at the beginning of September 2020, before the children start school. This year will be a little different and we will contact you to arrange a virtual meeting with you and your child at home. This meeting will be an opportunity for you and your child to chat to staff and to ease the transition into school. We will contact you to arrange a virtual meeting . Staff will also share resources that you can use at home in preparation for your child starting school.

Arrangements for this will be confirmed at a later date.


School Uniform

School Wear Utd usually attend the New Parents’ Meetings and you will have the opportunity to buy the school uniform then.  They sell all school uniform but only the uniform items with our ‘Dove’ logo on need to be bought from them; i.e. school blazer (optional for pupils in Reception), cardigan, jumper, PE kit, book bag and tie.  Other items such as school trousers, dresses and shirts can be bought from other stores. 

At St Luke’s, children are put into one of four houses: St George (red), St Andrew (blue), St Patrick (green) and St David (yellow).  Depending on which house your child is given, they will either wear red, blue, green or yellow PE t-shirts.  If you have an older child at St Luke’s, your child will be put in the same house as them.  We will write to you shortly to confirm which house NAME has been given.

If the New Parents’ Meeting is held virtually, school uniforms can be brought from School Wear United, 3 Crown Dale, Norwood, London SE19 3PB.  We will let you know when they are open.   Items of clothing can also be ordered on-line


Start Date

Hopefully, all Reception children will start school the week commencing Monday 7th September 2020.  However, we will be staggering the start dates to help the children settle into school.  During this week, the children will start school at 8.45am and finish at 12.00pm.  We will write to you nearer the time to let you know ’s start date. 

On Monday 14th September 2020 and Tuesday 15th September 2020, all Reception children should be eating lunch at school and finish at 1.15pm. 

From Wednesday 16th September 2020, all children should be in school full time (8.45am – 3.00pm).

We wrote to parents and carers about the information required.  


Policies and other information

We wrote to parents and carers outlining the policies we will be providing.  We wrote about the Pupil Personal Information Booklet, which needs to be completed.  We outlined how the school works with Christ Church Streatham, St John's Angell Town and the Southwark Diocesan Board Multi-Academy Trust (SDBEMAT).  We explained the difference between Free School Meals, Universal Free School Meals and Pupil Premium.  We also gave brief details about our Magic Breakfast club, after school activities and Premier Sports After School Club.  We also provided the links to resources to under support early learning at home.



We strive to be a paperless school as much as possible and use a variety of online platforms to communicate effectively with our parents and carers.  To keep you involved with St. Luke’s, you can view the school website for information.

We have a new Management Information System called Arbor which will make communication between the school and parents even easier. 

As parents and carers you will be able to download the App or Parent Portal and complete the following:

As well as Arbor being our new MIS, it is a communication tool between the parents and carers and the school.

You will be able to do all the following in one space:

  • Look at the contact information that the school holds for your child.
  • Request changes to your information or your contact’s information i.e. you need your telephone number or you have changed your address.
  • Look and amend medical and dietary information.
  • Look at your school meal balance and pay dinner monies
  • Change your permissions for consent; permission for a photo of your child to be used in certain ways.
  • Check attendance of your child.
  • In-app messages (i.e. new Coronavirus update)
  • Book attendance at Breakfast Club
  • Book after school clubs (booster, pupil premium and paid)
  • Give permissions for educational visits (free or paid)
  • Pay for after school clubs and educational visits
  • Change dinner types (if money is not owed)
  • Book parent consultation appointments
  • Book places at school events
  • Being able to view all your educational visits and after school clubs booked.

The school also uses Class Dojo, which has been an effective tool that allows the school to communicate with parents very quickly.  It has been invaluable during this COVID-19 period allowing pupils, parents, teachers and teaching assistants and office staff to communicate and continue with teaching and learning.  Class Dojo will show learning and photos that only the immediate school families can access.  We also use Google Classroom, enabling staff and learners to share learning at home and at school.


We will continue to be in regular contact with our new children and families.
