School closure home learning resources
Dear Parents,
Whilst the school is closed, we will continue to provide a broad menu of activities for our learners.  The section below provides a list of learning platforms that can be accessed via the internet.
For some of these platforms, your child will need a log in.  Children will have already been provided with these.
During term time, teachers will provide daily updates outlining which tasks they wish learners to complete for the day. Alongside online learning platforms, there will be the usual home learning activities such as daily reading, maths fluency tasks (learning multiplication facts and number bonds) project homework and other research based learning.
You will be able to communicate with class teachers and support staff, in the usual way, via class dojo.  Any problems or queries then please do communicate with your class teacher via class dojo messaging.

All children have their own log ins - Please ask the year 5 team if there any issues accessing this learning.

Spellings

In year 5, the expectation is that learners should continue to revise and add to their vocabulary word bank through the statutory NC spelling list. The lists are a mixture of words pupils frequently use in their writing and those which they often misspell. We have a weekly spelling test to embed these words into our everyday spoken and written vocabulary.

Information for Parents/Carers

Reading: Children should be reading daily and recording this in their reading record books. Below is a recommended reading list to guide you.

Spelling: Children have a weekly spelling test on a Thursday morning to assess and track their knowledge of the statutory spelling list.

Library: Children visit the school library on a weekly basis to ensure they have access to the wide range of literature that we offer. It is your child's responsibility to take care of the book that they take out from the library to ensure a great lifespan of the made available.

I would also encourage joining the local library to ensure children have an unlimited range of choices that match their interests.

TimetablesChildren have a weekly timetable test on a Thursday morning to assess and track their knowledge of the timetable multiplication and division facts up to 12x12.

PE: In year 5, learners have two PE sessions on a Tuesday morning and Friday morning. Please ensure your child has the correct kit with them on these days.

PE Kit includes:

  • House colour top; blue, red, yellow, green;
  • Plain navy tracksuit bottoms (or shorts);
  • and black sports shoe wear.

Please ensure all uniform is named and labelled clearly and remind learners to take their kits home to be washed weekly for good practice of continued hygiene.

Class Dojo:

Class Dojo is a great way for children and parents to visually see the points they have earned throughout the week. Children start each day with 5 dojo points so there is a possible 25 dojo points per week.  The children can earn extra points for outstanding work or contribution in and outside of school, but they can lose points due to poor choices.

It is also a great platform for us to share the learning that is happening in our class for the week, as well as keeping you informed of any key dates and events.

There is also a messaging section should you wish to speak to me about any concerns you may have throughout the year.

Should you have any concerns or would like to meet to discuss your child's learning, please feel free to schedule a time to meet after school.
