Corona Virus Update 13032020

Dear Parents and Carers

We wrote to you yesterday to inform you that all educational visits have been postponed on the guidance of the SDBE.

It is important that schools only act upon approved medical advice from the relevant national agencies rather than trying to decide what is best for ourselves and causing undue alarm.

Understandably, people are concerned about the spread of this virus and I appreciate this. However, whenever there is national anxiety, be it about crime and terrorism, severe weather or indeed health matters such as this, our approach is always to keep calm, consider factual information, take advice and respond in a measured way.

For some time, I have been receiving daily advisory updates from the NHS, the Department for Education, Lambeth and the Southwark Diocese. As yet, I have not received any information relating to the need for school closures.

Unfortunately, I have had to take the decision to postpone the Mothers’ Day Breakfast. We will organise a similar event in the future to celebrate our mother figures. As far as other events and activities are concerned, we will make the decision on a case by case basis and of course keep you fully informed via Class Dojo and the school website.

If your child has a temperature, please do not bring them into school. If you or your child develop symptoms, call NHS 111 and please inform the school of their decision.

However, as with Ireland closing their schools with such short notices, this situation can change rapidly. I will not hesitate to share important information with you as soon as I receive it.  We will only change our plans if we are required to act on official advice.  Until such a time, no one at St Luke’s will enter into speculation as to what might happen or when things may change.

However, it may be wise to consider your own individual childcare circumstances should the school be unable to operate as expected. The school has a process in place for home learning etc and these would be shared should the need arise.  Please ensure that you have downloaded Class Dojo and that the school has your up to date contact details.

Your sincerely
