Surge Testing in Lambeth

As you are aware, everyone over the age of 11 who lives, works or attends school in Lambeth should take a Covid-19 PCR test as soon as possible, regardless of whether they have Covid-19 symptoms or not.  Anyone who has been vaccinated should still get tested.

Although we are being asked to participate in the mass testing, please keep in mind the following:

  • Case numbers are low
  • Testing is to find cases and minimise transmission
  • Schools have a range of measures in place to minimise risk
  • Transmission in schools is relatively rare
  • Currently there is no evidence to suggest the SA variant causes more severe illness than others but there is some evidence that it can spread more easily than the original version of the virus

Staff and pupils in secondary schools are being sent tests via their schools, however pupils who are 11 years old and in primary school, will not been sent the tests.  They will need to obtain tests along with the rest of their families.

  • There are several testing options:
  • Attend a local site for in-person testing (bookable)
  • Attend a local site (walk-in only) for choice of:

In person testing

Testing is voluntary however it is highly recommended. Enhanced testing enables the authorities to understand whether there have been any further cases of the SA variant and suppress any spread of the virus.

It is important that parents who live outside of the Borough of Lambeth but whose children attend Lambeth’s schools also participate in the testing.

It is important to ensure that if you have travelled abroad that you self-isolate as advised.
