At St Luke’s, we work hard in providing a wide range of extra-curricular clubs and activities, aiming to promote healthy and happy lifestyles.  We believe that joining in with activities before or after school helps to build self-esteem and gives children the opportunity to enjoy learning new skills, perhaps finding a new passion that they will enjoy for the rest of their lives!  The Children’s University complements this by their belief that children can and do learn anywhere, when doing all sorts of activities, and that children learn best when they decide what they want to learn, when and where, and most importantly, have FUN whilst learning.

 Dear Parents and Carers,

What you have to do could not be easier.

Please read the following information carefully…

What is Children’s University?

The Children’s University (CU) Trust offers 7 to 14 year olds (and 5 to 6 year olds with their families) exciting and innovative learning activities and experiences outside normal school hours.

How are we going to do it?

Every time your child goes to a learning destination, e.g. after school clubs, they are going to take their passport with them to get stamped. They will then need to return it to their class passport box to collect any stamps due from school clubs.

Please note that hundreds of outside clubs/ activities/ places are also learning destinations (if in doubt, ask when you go to places). The children will be allowed to take passports out of school when they need to, but must remember to return them to the passport box when done.

What is the aim?

Apart from encouraging our children to take part in a variety of stimulating activities as they grow, there is an added incentive… Graduation!

Towards the end of the school year, there will be a special ceremony in for those children who have achieved bronze level (30 stamps) and above. You will be invited! Your child will be supplied with a cap and gown just like a real university graduation.

What a proud moment for all the family!

How much is all this going to cost me?

Our school has decided to help families by partnering with you and paying half of the cost of the passport. Thee full cost is £5.00 which means that with our support you only pay £2.50.  Graduation is  completely free! If your child loses their C.U Passport, they might have to pay the full cost for replacement, so please encourage them to look after the passport!

What will happen once my child has achieved bronze?

They will carry on shining! Passports last until they are 14, so they can take it to their next teacher, their next school and continue working to the next levels. Imagine all the experiences which can be reflected on a teenager's C.V!

Angela Nelson, who runs the Lambeth Children's University, came into school to speak to parents and carers at Parents Consultation and also led an assembly to introduce Children's University.
