                                                                                                                                                                           As Part of our celebration, we participated in a Shakespeare workshop and Globe                                            theatre Performance 'The Play's the Thing!'                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Happy Book Day!!! We dressed as some inspiring book characters to celebrate a               love of reading! Look at our costumes and try and guess some of our book titles.                                                                                                                                                                 

      2016 commemorates 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare; this special anniversary year is a truly unique opportunity to explore some of his greatest works.                                                                                                                                                             In Year 2 we have been learning about A Midsummer Nights Dream...                                                                                                                                                            Four friends, having an argument in the Athenian woods at midnight, are confused by fairies who are only trying to help. Throw in some magic, a battle over a little boy, and an actor who unsuspectingly becomes the fairy queen’s love interest… oh and a magic set of donkey’s ears… and there you have it - A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a comedy.                                                                                                                                                                                         We composed freeze frames to express the theme of power.                                                                                                                                                               

 KS1 Nativity - Little Angel Gets Her Wings                      Congratulations to all KS1 learners for sharing the Nativity story this Christmas season. The Parable of Talents                                                                               This week was year 2's class assembly and we have enjoyed sharing our talents with the St Luke's family!! Thank you to all the parents who came to watch and support us. For those who unfortunately could not make it we have provided a video below of the assembly so you don't miss out...  Maths Week in Year 2 was full of Challenge...                                                                                                                                                                        We focused on deepening our thinking around Shape and their properties.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     We used our knowledge to discover different shapes  shapes in outdoor environment.                                        We found regular and irregular shapes!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           'Our school is full of shapes!' -KW                                                                       'I cant believe how many squares are on the fence.                                                       If you put four together they make a bigger square' - JA                                   'The drain has a right angle... so does the the football pitch' - MEG                                                                                                                                                                                       This week was year 2's class assembly and we have received such lovely and positive comments from members of St Lukes family!! Miss Rivero and Miss Farrugia are super proud of all the work and effort that the children put in for their class assembly. Thank you to all the parents who came to watch and support us.                                                           Angle Investigation                                                                             We explored our environment to see if we could identify Right Angles.             A Right Angle is an angle of 90°, as in a corner of a square.                                                 It is formed when two straight lines meet.                                                                                                                                                        We searched everywhere using our angle finders...                                                        ...and identified Right Angles in our classroom.                                              Can you find any Right Angles at home?

Black History and Diversity Month                                                                                                                                                                                                 As part of our celebrations for Black History and Diversity month,  we had the opportunity to participate in a storytelling workshop with Faustin Charles the author of "The Selfish Crocodile"                                                                                                                                                                                        The selfish Crocodile is a story about a large and very angry crocodile who warns the other animals each day to stay away from HIS river. The other animals listen until one day they notice that the crocodile is in pain. They have to decide whether to forgive the crocodile and help him... What do you think happens next?  Ask a KS1 learner what happens to the crocodile...                                                     
Lots of us volunteered our help to act out parts of the story, Faustin Charles made us Laugh!

 Year 2 have named their class pets Charlie and Lola. They are both termperate fish. Can you notice their differences? Come in to our class to introduce yourself and say hello!

 We visited the Horniman Museum to find out more about Animals and their Habitats. We took part in an interactive workshop and look closely at how animals features help them to survive where they live.                                   Ask our Year 2 scientists what they found out...

                                                                                We are working hard to improve our spellings!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 This week we were thinking about the 'or' grapheme (a grapheme is a letter or letters that spell a sound in a word.)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           We discovered that after the 'w' phoneme (sound)... 'or' sounds like 'ur'                                                         CONFUSED ... challenge a Year 2 learner to explain!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               World, Worth, Worm, Worthy, Worthwhile... As part of our Literacy Unit - The Tragedy of Macbeth, the Shakespeare Globe theatre visited our school to help us bring the story to life!                                                                                                                                                                                                                         
                                                                                       We shared what we already knew about Macbeth. We thought about his character and explored Good Macbeth and Bad Macbeth.                                                                                                                                                                         We created freeze frames expressing our feelings and values. We hot seated Macbeth and he stated that 'Lady Macbeth made me do it. She wanted to be the queen'.                                                                                                            Thank you Mr Davey for helping us to explore Macbeth and find out more about Lady Macbeth
